Meet the Bell Springs Brewing Team

Clem Villars

Clem is our Head Brewer and is originally from the world's most well-known booze capital of the Western hemisphere - New Orleans. He met his wife, a native Austinite, while she was vacationing post-Hurricane Katrina in NOLA. Their initial meeting was bliss. The pair whisked themselves away to the paradise known as the Hill Country of Texas just as soon as they could where they would put down roots and begin a beautiful family together. They began their journey, a quest of sorts, into the world of fermentables shortly before this escapade though.

It was one fateful Sunday that Clem's future father-in-law would suggest that Clem "give homebrewing a shot" since they both enjoyed imbibing the finest of craft ales and lagers. And the rest is history really. Clem was sucked into the hobby and opened up a homebrew shop in Johnson City within the next year. While he managed that, he got a real job at a brewery first and then at a winery later. He worked his way up to Cellar Master in the wine world and decided that wine wasn't as much fun as brewing beer and kind of boring actually so back to beer it was. This time he was able to bring his production management experience to the table. Clem is the quintessential quadruple threat with production experience in brewing, winemaking, distilling, and drinking. A true alcoholist that is a huge asset to the team if he does say so himself - which he does frequently.

He's married with kids so don't even think about it. He enjoys brewing classic representations of most styles. His motto is, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Clem can be found brewing most days and in the taproom on the weekends. Inevitably, he's the guy wearing a Magellan shirt and Bell Springs Brewing ball cap. Pro tip: Don't look him directly in the eyes unless you have time to pontificate about how beer in general and his award-winning beer specifically are making the world a better place.
